So all I can tell you at this moment is that we think it’s a great idea and that we’re considering it. We don’t know if the soundtrack will be ready when Episode Two is released, and we’re not sure how complicated it is to make it available exclusively for donators. I’ve discussed your idea of making a soundtrack available for donators with the team, and we all agree that it’s a fantastic idea.

We’d love to release a soundtrack on the same date as Episode 2 comes out, but I have the feeling I’ll be busy right up to the release making graphics, music, story changes, PR, interviews or answering fan mail. The soundtrack will actually have to be composed (by me) and then mastered afterwards, which is a time consuming process. So there’s not just a set of music loops which we can easily compile into a complete soundtrack. If Joe for example looks at a corpse, the game starts fading in one music loop while slowly fading out another. The way the soundtrack works is that certain loops are turned on and off by certain actions in the game. When making the soundtrack, I realised that the more silence I added to the soundtrack, the more powerful it became, once it kicked in. I have received a lot of positive feedback on the soundtrack, but hardly anyone ever notices that it’s actually absent most of the time. I’m very inspired by Hitchcock and David Lynch, who I consider to be masters in engaging the audience’s mind. I deliberately design the graphics, the music and the story to be somewhat diffuse, as I believe this engages the player’s imagination. I’m also happy that hear that you appreciate the eerie atmosphere. I actually spend more time tuning the colors and contrast than actually drawing the backgrounds. I appreciate that that you noticed the colors in the game. Items can be transported across time, and puzzle solving usually involves using items from one point in time to solve puzzles in another. Rooms that are inaccessible in the present may be accessible in the future and vice versa. He stays in the same spot during time travel, but the surroundings will have changed greatly. Joe has a time travel device which allows him to travel between the present and 40 years in the future.

In fact, the only thing remotely remarkable about him is exactly how much he conforms to the median of the hypothetical everyman, and up until this point, Joe’s life hasn’t exactly been biography material. Average height, average weight, average IQ. Our protagonist is Joe in more than just name. It’s been like this for years, going from one soul-devouring job to the next. Working a dead-end attendant job making sure the building is as spotless as the suits walking the halls. All the winds of change are doing here is blowing leaves all over Joe’s newly-swept floor. Somewhere in the big city, in a tall, faceless government building someone left a window open. The winds of change are certainly blowing over the country. Environmentalists, the female liberties movement, and on the dance floors an entirely different kind of movement is overtaking the underground clubs. Meanwhile the Cold War is more than lukewarm and a real one is going on overseas. Flipflops, English leather and bandanas are the height of fashion. I have made the game design, level design, graphics, music and most of the story for the game.
